MTD, VAT and Corporation Tax
The HMRC desire to modernise the UK tax system. A key objective of this modernisation is for all taxpayers to move to digital systems and reporting. The MTD (making tax digital) project is part of this modernisation. MTD encourages all business tax payers to maintain and prepare their accounting and financial records digitally. Xero can assist you with this change.
From April 2019, MTD requires all VAT registered business who have turnover over the registration threshold limit, currently £85,000, to file their quarterly VAT return electronically providing more details in digital form than required historically. VAT registered business with turnover below the threshold limit may elect to jion the MTd revolution.
The expectation is that from April 2020, your corporation taxes will also require filing under MTD.
